Qualifications REQUIRED -Must obtain EDRS (State Death Certificate System) Training Certificate. -Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory specimen handling, processing, shipping requirements to meet policy, procedure and regulatory requirements. -Knowledge of computer systems such as EMR, LIS, email, hospital Incident Reporting system (e.g. RL Solutions), and Microsoft Office Suite enough to perform anatomic pathology inquiries and answer customer questions. -Experience to work on several projects or tasks simultaneously and to exercise appropriate judgment when setting priorities to meet required turnaround times, suspense dates and deadlines. -Possess effective verbal communication skills to answer questions from internal and external customers in clear and concise manner. -Possess written communication skills to write clear emails, EMR messages, and reports and to convey information appropriately. -Knowledge of Anatomic Pathology specimens and case types, including blocks and microscope slides. -Knowledge of Anatomic Pathology policies, procedures, processes and workflows for surgical pathology, histology and cytology. -Ability to work with outside clinicians, outreach clients, and pathologists to fulfill requests to send out cases, blocks and slides. -Demonstrated familiarity with medical terminology (test names, specimen types, patent diagnoses, anatomy, physiology, etc.) -Demonstrated ability to resolve problems, utilize resources effectively and recognize aberrant processes that could lead to process failures. -Ability to maintain composure and flexibility in an evolving environment. -Ability to work as a member of a team and to assist colleagues as needed. -Ability to maintain confidentiality, follow and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT -Maintains current Dangerous Goods Transport certificate as required. -Must be able to work overtime as needed and rotate weekends, holidays and on call hours per departmental staffing policies.

Responsibilities The Hospital Lab Assistant III plays a dual role in supporting Department functions in the Anatomic Pathology (AP) Send Out lab and Decedent Affairs, ensuring timely and accurate coordination and preparation/processing of anatomical pathology referral, consultation and risk management cases and the accurate and timely completion of all post mortem paperwork, including the death certificate.
