The Assistant Veterinary Technician provides general assistance to the veterinary staff and researchers and provides care for research animals. Performs routine health care procedures and conducts daily animal health evaluations. Position is 35 hours/week on a Saturday-Wednesday work week schedule; Mandatory weekend and holiday coverage as scheduled on a rotating basis.
Perform daily health evaluations and provide necessary treatment and document
Provide technical support to researchers as per the protocol; animal handling, blood collection, etc.
Assist in training courses on safe and humane handling, restraint and manipulation of research animals
Monitor the sentinel colony and collect samples for testing
Maintain inventory and order supplies, maintain isoflurane machines, maintain prep/procedure rooms and surgical areas
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Bachelors or associates degree
Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) or Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT)
