Dr. Craig Galban’s Lab within the Department of Radiology at Michigan Medicine of the University of Michigan has an immediate opening for an Imaging Data Analyst to lead software advancement and integration efforts of advanced image-based analytical techniques developed by our group. We seek individuals with the motivation and initiative to expand the successes of the group.
Our group has a long history of algorithmic development of translatable MRI and CT-based biomarkers for disease phenotyping and prediction of therapeutic response. Our mission is to fully exploit the spatial and function information within clinical imaging data with the goal of advancing personalized medicine, both in terms of optimizing disease management, and tailoring treatment to the individual patient. On-going projects include feature extraction for improved COPD subtyping, optimized radiation planning to minimize lung injury in lung cancer patients, and improve detection of deployment related small airways disease in post-combat military personnel. All studies are performed in a multi-disciplinary environment which include scientists, physicians, statisticians and engineers, as well as large clinical trials and industrial partners. In addition to our clinical work, we are working with the PACS team to integrate our clinically-relevant algorithms into the PACS workflow, as well as provide image-based solutions for analyzing preclinical imaging data (e.g. in vivo mouse imaging and microscopy).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

A strong candidate would have expertise in scientific programming and software with a background in theory of digital signal processing, statistics, and machine learning. Understanding of image compression algorithms and methods for working with large datasets (e.g. datasets too big for RAM) is a must, and knowledge of GPU programming/parallelization is a plus. Must have experience, in some combination, with computer engineering, applied mathematics, image processing, machine learning, algorithm design, and software development in languages like C++, Python, Matlab, and R. Proven expertise in these areas (e.g. relevant work experience) is a must and scientific training in large-scale data analysis is an expected component of the position. This position requires a bachelor degree in computer science or related field and 2-3 years’ computer/research experience.
We are seeking a dynamic individual with a demonstrated track record of technical innovation, scientific excellence, and participation in multi-disciplinary team projects. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required for success in our collaborative research environment. The applicant must be ambitious, talented, and self-motivated with an interest in leveraging our research interests, as this position emphasizes the ability to learn new concepts and skills quickly. The candidate should have demonstrated expertise with state-of-the-art computational methods, with application to imaging data being a plus.
40 hour; day shift
