This is a 9 months fixed term, grant funded position with the possibility of transitioning to a permanent role.
The Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC has strategically established clinics at a number of locations throughout Los Angeles. By partnering with existing facilities for already providing services to the homeless, elderly and medically compromised, OstrowÂ makes comprehensive oral health care attainable for individuals who would otherwise lack the financial means or whose medical conditions might make itÂ difficult to receive treatment.
The Division of Dental Public Health & Pediatric Dentistry at USC is currently seeking a talented Dental Patient Services Specialist with a unique combination of skills to provide administrative support for the department.The Dental Patient Services Specialist will be performing a variety of administrative duties in clinical and administrative environment associated with meeting grant requirements for the L.A. County DHSP HIV grant, ensuring quality patient series and compliance with grant and clinic policies and procedures.
Responsibilities include but not limited to: greets patients and determining nature of visit; registers new patients and assigns patient IDs; collects patient information, co-payment, patient account balance, and verifies insurance eligibility and coverage level for new and returning patients; tracks grant patientâs treatment for grant reporting and ensuring grant patientsâ charts are in compliance; contacts referring agencies to ensure medical and referral documents are current; assists with other Community Oral Health Projects as needed.
This individual will also receive record and various forms payments following established policies and procedures; screens and prioritizes incoming calls; schedules and confirms appointments and follow-ups; provides administrative support to supervisory and management staff; and maintains a safe environment in accordance with compliance standards, policies, and safety regulations.
The ideal candidate will be highly organized, customer service-oriented, and thrives in a fast paced environment. The successful candidate will also have excellent verbal and written communication skills, have a flexible attitude, and demonstrates proficiency with Microsoft Office and software. Bilingual Spanish preferred.

Minimum Education: High school or equivalentMinimum Experience: 2 yearsMinimum Field of Expertise: Experience working in a healthcare environment. Working knowledge of HIPAA compliance and insurance terminology. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal customer service and telephone skills. Demonstrated ability to multi-task.
