Job Description Summary
A full-time position is available working with Alice Chen-Plotkin and Thomas F Tropea in the Department of Neurology at the University of Pennsylvania. Our research programs study neurodegenerative diseases with a particular focus on Parkinson's disease. Projects range from clinical research into genetic risk factors for disease outcomes to studying the basic mechanisms of the neurodegenerative disease process. We are looking for a highly motivated person who is excited about doing a combination of clinical research with a small bench work component.
Responsibilities for this position will include supporting the development of a genetic research cohort through direct participant contact and clinical data collection, phlebotomy, and follow-up of all research-related activities including questionnaires, participant scheduling and data management. Laboratory responsibilities will include PCR, DNA sequencing, genotyping, and quantitative PCR of human samples. While prior lab and/or clinical research experience is preferred, we are happy to teach most of these skills during the course of the research. All members of the lab are also expected to attend weekly lab meetings and to participate in the educational activities (e.g. journal club) of the lab. Candidates should be enthusiastic, willing to learn, well-organized, and interested in taking ownership of a scientific project. Position is contingent on funding.
Candidates will be hired as a Research Specialist A or B depending on prior experience. Research Specialist A will have 0-1 years experience or equivalent combination of years and experience required. Research Specialist B will have 1-3 years experience or equivalent combination of years and experience required.
