The Clinical Nurse Manager will be responsible for all outpatient service areas associated with Pediatric Cardiology at CUIMC.
Advanced knowledge and skills required for this role include but are not limited to: clinical expertise in pediatrics, general pediatric cardiology, evidenced-based practices, and best practices. The successful candidate will have at least some general knowledge of common cardiac medications; be able to communicate with parents/patients/family members and other health care providers; have experience calling in new prescriptions and/or refills; triaging patients both face-to-face or over the phone; have worked with electronic medical record programs and be able to enter data into such programs; work collaboratively with other health care providers and staff; supervise medical assistants (MA's) and other nursing staff working in our outpatient service areas. The clinical Nurse Manager will participate in performance evaluations of these persons. This position will also participate with faculty, nursing, divisional leadership and other supervisors involved with our outpatient service areas (from both university and hospital) to set clinical policies and procedures for our outpatient service areas.
The Clinical Nurse Manager will report to the Division Chief of Pediatric Cardiology.
Plans, coordinates, and oversees the day-to-day nursing and patient service supporting the Pediatric Cardiology clinical outpatient services. Oversees patient assessment, treatment, and care, to include nursing procedures, as appropriate to clinic operations. Provides direct professional nursing services as appropriate. The Clinical Nurse Manager will have five direct RN/MA reports.
Main job tasks and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Provide leadership and guidance to other nurses and medical assistants (MA's)
Participate in and/or perform necessary performance evaluations and competency reviews for nurses and MA's that report to this position as per HR-required frequency
Ensure that staff is properly trained.
Address any personal issues to promote a productive and supportive work environment.
Collaborate with top management/leadership, interdisciplinary teams and other stakeholders in order to develop, implement and evaluate programs and services and patient education and materials.
Apply evidence-based healthcare practices and nursing standards.
Review patient and staff data to measure the effectiveness of patient care.
Coordinate the patient care activities including patient throughput in all outpatient service areas.
Provides general nursing care to patients.
Observe and record patient behavior / symptoms.
Prepares equipment and aids physicians during treatments and examinations of patients.
Requires bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years of related experience.
Must have a NYS RN license and maintain and renew when necessary.
