Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is seeking a candidate to fill the position of Events Supervisor in the Culinary Services department. The qualified candidate will execute and oversee the setup, maintenance, and breakdown of meeting, course, administrative, public affairs, and development related events. This position is full-time.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: - Executing events on and off site including breakfasts, lunches, dinners, receptions, banquets, barbeques, and VIP events - Providing event services at the residences of executives - Procuring and organizing supplies for events - Supervising and training staff in coordinating all aspects of events - Designating event staff responsibilities - Serving as a liaison to the event contact when needed - Anticipating guest needs and monitoring their dining experience to ensure satisfaction - Serving as a barista utilizing the point-of-sale system – Cross training within the department including bartending - Providing support to the events office team - Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and some holidays according to events and the needs of the culinary services department - Maintaining a professional and personable - Arriving promptly for all scheduled shifts and maintaining consistent attendance
Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required.
Experience: A minimum of five years of experience in a culinary service establishment is required.
Knowledge/Skills: - Computer knowledge is helpful - Point-of-Sale and Caterease experience a plus - Nassau County Department of Health Food Service Managers Training Course certificate a plus - TIPS (Training for Intervention ProcedureS) certified a plus - Bartending experience a plus - Must possess a valid driver’s license and own transportation. - The ability to speak and understand the Spanish language is helpful.
Physical: Must be able to stand for long periods of time, bend, stretch, and lift items such as boxes and trays of food or drinks.
Environmental: Must be comfortable working with others in social settings.
