Job Description Summary
The Sniegowski lab in the Department of Biology is looking to hire a Research Specialist A to participate in microbial evolution experiments and oversee day to day lab operations and supply.
Duties: Plans and conducts microbial evolution experiments to meet research project objectives, with limited supervision using standard microbiological and molecular methods. Preparation of media and propagation of bacterial and yeast cultures in media and on agar plates. Carry out competition experiments between marked strains of bacteria and yeast in liquid and agar cultures. DNA extraction and plasmid isolation, routine gel electrophoresis. Daily management of laboratory equipment , documentations and processes to ensure regulatory compliance and timely completion of project. Closely collaborates with Senior Research Specialists and Principal Investigator (PI) on experimental set ups in accordance with established protocols. Keep track of and order lab supplies. Participate in overseeing and supervising the work of up to two undergraduate research assistants.
Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Biology or related field with 0-1 year of related experience in research methodologies. or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required. Familiarity with microbiological research preferred.
