Library Assistant: Circulation and Information Desk
Utica College, a small comprehensive college in Upstate New York, is seeking applications for a Library Assistant: Circulation and Information Desk. Incumbent is responsible for staffing circulation and information desk, and monitoring circulation and information desk functions. Trains, schedules and supervises information desk student assistants. Trained in circulation and information desk functions. In charge of the library when a librarian is not on duty. Responsible for opening and closing the library. May cross-train in other areas while still performing the duties of circulation and information desk assistant.

Primary responsibilities include:
Staffs information and circulation desks; Trains, schedules and supervises information desk assistants. Prepares student timesheets and authorizes payment; Assists library users with informational, directional and basic reference inquiries; Assists students with basic microcomputer software questions (e.g., MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint) as well as hardware needs (e.g. printers, scanners, etc.); Charges and discharges library materials for patrons, including books from the main collection, course reserves, and library laptops; Interprets and enforces library policy when librarian is not on duty, and responsible for maintaining an atmosphere conducive to studying and research; Assists with interlibrary loan and reserve processing; Follows procedures for opening and closing the library at established hours. Makes sure all patrons have gone and building is secure at closing; Maintains patron records and their confidentiality. Determines and assigns library privileges to visitors; Performs general checks for neatness and for books out of place, sort and shelves library materials and assists with shifting library collections; Works with supervisor to develop specific goals that support Utica College’s operational plans. This is done at least annually through the annual performance evaluation process, however review of goals will occur throughout the year; Responsible for working with supervisor and other team members to achieve successful results on all established individual and departmental goals and key performance indicators; Performs other duties as assigned and/or assists with special projects as are required by circumstance.
