The Department of Mathematics invites outstanding applicants for a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor position to begin in Fall 2020. Primary responsibilities include: teaching courses in mathematics or related area (depending on the field of expertise), and conducting an externally funded, independent, sustainable research program. Candidates are also expected to contribute in meaningful ways to service responsibilities at the department, college and university levels.
Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in Mathematics or a related discipline. Successful candidates are expected to develop and maintain an active, highly visible, externally funded research program, and to demonstrate excellence in teaching and mentoring both graduate and undergraduate students. Research area is open (to the extent mentioned above), but preference will be given to applicants who will contribute significantly to our university’s existing interdisciplinary research, as important opportunities and partnerships exist with area industry, within the College of Science and Mathematics, and throughout the University and its two medical schools.
The Department of Mathematics currently has about 300 undergraduate and 20 graduate students, and offers B.A., B.S. and M.A. degrees; as well as minors in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Statistics & Operations Research. There are 23 full-time, tenure-track faculty, many doing research in pure and applied mathematics, statistics, mathematics education, and interdisciplinary work with colleagues from other departments and colleges.
