The position is responsible for the overall management and supervision of the Intramural Sports, Sport Clubs, Special Events, Camp Big Red, and Outdoor Recreation Adventure programs as well as the Hattie L. Preston Intramural Sports Complex, the WKU Challenge Course, the WKU Disc Golf Course, and the Raymond B. Preston Health and Activities Center Pro Shop.
This position will assist the Director with administration of the Department of Campus Recreation and Wellness (CRW) with fostering a continuous learning environment for WKU students, faculty and staff.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties are customary of this position, but are not to be constructive as all inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.
Oversees daily operations of the Intramural Sports, Sport Clubs, Special Events, Camp Big Red and Outdoor Recreation Adventure programs as well as the Hattie L. Preston Intramural Sports Complex, the WKU Challenge Course, the WKU Disc Golf Course, and the Raymond B. Preston Health and Activities Center Pro Shop.
Directly Supervises the Coordinator of Outdoor Recreation/Challenge Course, Intramural Sports Graduate Assistant, Sport Clubs Graduate Assistant and CRW Grounds Maintenance Staff.
Indirectly supervises the ORAC Graduate Assistant, and WKU Challenge Course Graduate Assistant.
Oversees the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of the
Intramural Sports, Sport Clubs, Grounds Maintenance, Camp Big Red, Outdoor Recreation Adventure Center, and the WKU Challenge Course graduate assistants, undergraduate student staff, internship and practicum students.
Serves as the Advisor and Mentor for the CRW Student Employee Board.Responsible for scheduling monthly board meetings, planning end of the semester student staff functions, coordinating annual homecoming picnic, overseeing Dance Big Red fund raiser, and publishing a semester alumni newsletter.
Responsible for overseeing and administering the Intramural Sports, Sport Clubs, Special Events, Camp Big Red, Outdoor Recreation Adventure programs as well as the Hattie L. Preston Intramural Sports Complex, WKU Challenge Course, WKU Disc Golf Course, and Raymond B. Preston Health and Activities Center Pro Shop budgets.Prepare and submit monthly budget summary reports to the Director.
Responsible for purchasing, maintaining, and keeping an accurate inventory of all program and facility equipment.Responsible for conducting daily inspections of all program facilities and their operating systems. Responsible for Complex security monitoring surveillance system and overseeing facility upgrades.Ensure that all program facilities are in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Reviews, revises, and enforces all program and facility policies and procedures. Communicates regularly with the Director by providing reports of current programs, services, and facilities as well as budget updates.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist with the department's student staff development program inclusive of semester orientations, in-service programs, reprimand, and awards recognition programs.
Assist with the department's recruitment and retention of all graduate assistants while serving in the capacity as a mentor.
Assist with the department's alumni development program.
Assists in the development and implementation of departmental and university strategic and assessment plans.
Assists with the development of the departmental Risk Management, Marketing,
Membership, Customer Service, and Staff Development plans.
Assists in the development and implementation of departmental and divisional
special events when requested.
Develops and cultivates collaborative relationships with various university and
local community departments and organizations.
Master's Degree in Physical Education, Recreation, Sport Management, Student Affairs or relevant discipline.
Minimum of 3 years of higher education programming.
Minimum of 3 years of experience supervising and managing graduate assistants, undergraduate students, and intern/practicum students in a collegiate setting.
Minimum of 3 years of experience with budget management, strategic planning, operational planning, and assessment planning.
AED, CPRO, & First Aid Certifications.
