Information Systems Specialist 3 -Student Financial Support & Services 11643
Student Financial Support and Services (SFSS) at West Virginia University is seeking applicants for an Information Systems Specialist 3 (Professional Technologist 3.289) position. As a key member of the SFSS team, this strong self-starter and experienced information technologist will be responsible for meeting the technical needs of SFSS across a variety of platforms. The incumbent will develop and maintain multiple systems, including but not limited to BANNER, ARGOS, AcademicWorks, and Campus Logic. In addition to creating and monitoring daily and cyclical processes, this position will provide data analysis, report design, and development of systems and processes to deliver a product to both internal and external users. The successful candidate will be able to function well both independently and as part of the team.
In order to be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will:
Perform testing, verification, and validation for internal custom code and vendor software releases, patches, and add-ons.
Develop and deploy complex information technology projects critical to the advancement of the University's mission to recruit, admit, and matriculate a high-quality student population.
Lead various projects to analyze, plan, design, and implement major technical initiatives.
Respond, research, and resolve unique technical processing issues/concerns brought forth by both end users and other technical staff.
Act as an advisor in obtaining industry standards/best practices to ensure the resulting product meets established requirements in identifying, developing, and resolving issues for internal and external customers.
Provide written procedures and system training to users striving to develop as functional users or as updates require. This includes creating or updating technical and functional documentation including but not limited to system configuration, infrastructure, and integration specifications.
Create and/or automate processes to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of all offices within SFSS. Collaborate with other University departments to increase efficiency and find solutions.
Perform constant/ongoing evaluation of current technology usage making recommendations for areas of improvement and developing plans for implementation.
Research and advise on appropriate technology to meet project, unit, SFSS, and/or University needs. Analyze user needs and make recommendations for implementation.
Develop solutions on various Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platforms. Facilitate and develop integrations between the CRM platforms and BANNER.
Ensure system backups are maintained according to the University's backup policies.
Provide application administration, analysis, Tier 2 support and resolution for CRM day-to-day operations and projects. This includes code migration, change control, application security, performance, and availability.
Create or update technical and functional documentation including but not limited to system configuration, infrastructure, and integration specifications.
Create profiles, roles, permissions, groups, sharing rules, field and organization level security settings, data mapping, data recovery, object modeling, and page layout design various platforms.
Perform data management tasks, including data conversion, data migration, deduplication, and identification and repair of data quality issues.
Participate in change and release management process.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies that involve technology.
Work with supervisor to develop and implement overall strategic technological plans consistent with the goals of Student Financial Support and Services and West Virginia University.
Develop and provide internal reports and dashboards on a regular and as needed basis as directed or requested to keep stakeholders informed utilizing ARGOS and SQL and other platforms.
Design and develop interfaces among a multitude of external vendors and internally supported systems which include but are not limited to BANNER, ARGOS, Campus Logic, and AcademicWorks.
Manage the operations for daily and special communications from Student Financial Support and Services to students across all campuses within West Virginia University.
Interpret and monitor application logs in order to identify potential issues and then work with appropriate units and vendors to mitigate any issues by creating support cases.
Collaborate with the Communication Specialist to ensure the technical aspects for strategic communication plans are met.
Prepare weekly, monthly, and annual reports detailing the number of communications fulfilled.
Work with teams to ensure strategic plans are executed by all applicable deadlines. Collaborate with teams to proactively identify and recommend operational improvements, enhancements, and system customizations that meet business needs and ensure solutions that are usable, scalable, and easy to maintain.
As needed, work with security group, developers, database and systems administrators to ensure system availability along with performing regular testing of business continuity plans.
Ensure the reliability, security, and stability of various platforms and software used to support business processed completed within SFSS. Follow security standards and protocols to complete regular internal system audits by collaborating with team.
Serve on various WVU teams and committees including internal committees within SFSS.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree required in computer science, computer engineering, information systems, or related field. Master's degree in related field is preferred.
A minimum of four (4) years of experience in the following:
Application administration experience
Experience with an integrated information system
Experience with Excel
Six months experience with SQL select statements
Ability to analyze data
Proven ability to learn a new technology
Working knowledge of Ellucian's Banner Student Information System is preferred
Student financial aid or student accounts (bursar) at a post-secondary institution is preferred
Familiarity with ARGOS reporting tool is preferred
