Spalding University invites applications for Director, Criminal Justice Studies. Faculty appointment may be at the assistant, associate or full professor; the director position is a renewable 12-month, tenure track contract. A Ph.D. (in-hand or in-progress) in criminal justice/criminology or a closely related field and a record of excellence in teaching, scholarly achievement, and leadership are preferred.

The successful candidate will be a teacher of excellence and an accomplished scholar. This candidate should possess the ability to lead a diverse department that engages interdisciplinary endeavors with several academic programs and holds a record of commitment to diversity and inclusion.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Recruits, selects, and hires faculty and staff for employment.
Designs and monitors development plans for faculty.
Recommends faculty and staff for promotion and retention.
Oversees administration of the faculty appraisal program.
Establishes appropriate job descriptions for faculty and staff and assesses student learning and climate within the academic program.
Assigns faculty loads in accordance with university policy and determines the need for additional faculty release time for administrative duties.
Models professional behavior and standards of practice.
Provides academic leadership in the development, enhancement, and delivery of a quality Criminal Justice Studies curriculum including interdisciplinary partnerships
Ensuring a robust student learning experience that is strengthened by strategic recruitment, engagement, and retention strategies
Assists in publicizing and disseminating information about Criminal Justice Studies and serve as the primary representative of the program within and outside of the university.
SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Doctoral degree in Criminal Justice or Criminology from an accredited institution
Experience in higher education with an ability to demonstrate evidence of knowledge and skills related to undergraduate teaching, teaching methodology, curriculum development, and curriculum evaluation; and
Demonstration of leadership style that is collaborative, dynamic, and visionary
Preference for candidates with some experience with online delivery of instruction
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Must be able to pass a background check.
