Under general supervision of the Loans and Receivables Manager, the Loan and Receivables Account Specialist is responsible for the maintaining, administering, and providing financial support of a large portfolio of sundry and loan accounts for the University of California Santa Cruz.
Working independently, while keeping the manager and other unit leaders informed, the Loan and Receivables Account Specialist councils' customers on their obligations to the university, as well as answers and resolves loan and sundry account questions. Specialist will also respond to complaints, account disputes, misapplied payments, requests for refunds and other billing issues.
In addition, the Loans and Receivables Account Specialist works with campus constituents, UCOP, and third-party servicers and collections agencies to make sure all work within the Loans and Receivables team is completed in an accurate and timely manner as well as ensuring that all federal and state laws, and university policies, are being followed. Duties include but not limited to: maintaining student loan default rate and the recovery of loan funds, providing exit interviews for students leaving campus, collection on past due student accounts and performing due diligence in the collection and servicing of loans and sundry debt.
Using UC Santa Cruz's Academic Information System (AIS), Student Business Services (SBS) is responsible for UC Santa Cruz's receivables and collections. The office consists of four major areas: Customer Service which handles all student interactions, disbursements, and refunds; Receivables and Loans which handles collections on past due accounts and manages student loans; Analysts which maintain the UC Santa Cruz eBill/ePay system, general IT support for the office, and handle reporting; and the Main Cashier's Office which accepts student payments, collects sub-cashier deposits, and deposits to the bank.
AIS is the custodian of many types of information, including that which is confidential, proprietary and private. Annually, the SBS office collects approximately: $42 million in deposits from the 150 UC Santa Cruz sub-cashier stations and process approximately 76,000 transactions posted to AIS, representing over $163 million in general payments. Additionally, SBS handles the disbursement of $93 million in financial aid disbursements and $70 million in refunds either mailed or directly deposited to the student's bank account.
