The Director of Medical Center Ministr y advances this mission in collaboration with chaplain and staff colleagues of other religious traditions at the Georgetown University Medical Center. The Director upholds and promotes the Catholic identity, Jesuit mission and Ignatian spiritual tradition of the university, and cultivates a culture of respectful dialogue and collaboration among diverse students and staff. Duties include but are not limited to:
Responsible for the strategic direction and management of Campus Ministry at the GUMC
Lead the religiously diverse team of chaplains assigned to the GUMC campus in providing pastoral presence and support to the GUMC community.
Responsible for providing pastoral presence and support to the GUMC community, including reflective programming and retreats, religious services, pastoral counseling and spiritual direction, and personal pastoral presence.
Develop and maintain campus partnerships around the intellectual, social and spiritual formation of students.
Promote the mission and work of Campus Ministry to donors and alumni.
Work with senior administrators to promote the wellbeing of students, staff and faculty.
S erve as a primary spiritual resource for students, faculty, staff through programs, retreats, religious services, and pastoral counseling, and engage alumni and donors.
Promote the Catholic and Jesuit identity of the institution at campus ceremonies and events.
The Director of Medical Center Ministry has a significant impact on the spiritual lives of students, faculty and staff, on the reputation of Campus Ministry as a partner in the work of student formation, and on the reputation of the Medical Center as a Catholic institution in the Jesuit educational tradition.
Master of Divinity or equivalent (terminal degree strongly preferred)
5+ years' relevant ministry experience
Must have a strong knowledge of the Catholic medical tradition, Jesuit education tradition as well as Ignatian spirituality, deep expertise in pastoral leadership, a solid understanding of clinical contexts, and sensitivity to the pastoral needs of a diverse community.
Requires the ability to work in close and mutual collaboration with leaders of other religious traditions.
