Manager of the Advanced Microscopy and Imaging Center at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville
The Division of Biology at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville seeks a highly trained individual to manage the Advanced Microscopy and Imaging Center (AMIC; https://microscopy.utk.edu). This university-wide core facility provides a wide range of microscopy tools for researchers at UT, including a transmission electron microscope, a scanning electron microscope, a laser scanning confocal microscope, and a TIRF microscope as well as sample preparation equipment. The successful candidate will provide training and technical assistance for these instruments and assist users in the design of experimental protocols involving microscopy as well as co-teach classes that introduce students to microscopy techniques. In addition, the candidate will monitor and maintain the instruments of the AMIC in optimal technical condition and ensure optimal functioning of the facility. The AMIC manager also handles management and financial aspects of the core facility. Candidates should have a substantial practical experience with biological sample preparation and hands-on knowledge of different microscopy modalities. Additional experience with image analysis is a plus.
Duties/Responsibilities: *Ensure optimal operation of all instruments in the AMIC *Train new users in proper use of the instruments *Consult with users on project development and grant applications *Manage the finances of the AMIC *Provide sample preparation services as needed *Participate in teaching microscopy classes.
