Provide training and guidance in work responsibilities; plan, assign, and direct work; reward and discipline employee-s; address complaints and resolve problems
Hire and train chemistry employees, including student assistants and graduate assistants
Help prepare payroll budget authorizations; retrieve, track, and approve time sheets for laboratory employees
Meet all required standards of confidentiality and safety
Establish and enforce proper disposal of materials, instruments, and sensitive documents.
Support research grant proposal submission and follow up
Coordinate inter-departmental and inter-university laboratory activities
Solve problems related to daily laboratory management
Attend Chemistry and Biochemistry department meetings as requested by the department Chair
Minimum Qualifications: MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS: B.S. in chemistry or related science Experience in coordinating and supervising others Experience with laboratory management Experience with managing projects and/or budgets Must have good customer relations or student services skills Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing Able to work independently to solve problems and to meet deadlines
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to move from lab to lab, to sit, communicate, reach and manipulate objects, tools or controls. The position requires mobility and minimal physical exertion. Duties involve moving materials weighing up to 5 pounds on a regular basis and up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, mouse, scientific instrumentation and similar machines.
Toe above description covers the most significant duties performed but does not include other related occasional work.
