Assistant/Associate Dean of Graduate Education - School of Engineering - (19001496)
This position will be Assistant Dean or Associate Dean, depending on the experience of the candidate.
In partnership with the Dean of Graduate Education, this position manages graduate programs and supports graduate students. Provides academic advising, oversees professional development and evaluation metrics, seeks new funding opportunities for educational and diversity initiatives and establishes new on-line and distance learning opportunities.
Specifically, the Assistant Dean/Associate Dean:
D evelops professional and enrichment programs to contribute to graduate student success
Reviews graduate students' academic progress each semester, generating reports and communicating with departments and advisers to identify at-risk students.
Provides proactive engagement by working with faculty advisers and advising graduate students to create individual development plans to help students remain on track in their respective programs .
Assumes the oversight for all professional development course development and deployment including securing appropriate speakers and resources to support diverse student populations. This includes oversight into providing language and culture immersion programs and experiences.
Works with the Graduate Dean for Engineering Education to seek out new funding opportunities to support new educational and diversity initiatives and provides administrative oversight for such programs. This includes the current NSF Fast-Trac and female STEM leaders programs to ensure the best practices and successes of these programs are integrated and scalable for long-term sustainability.
Assists in ensuring the SOE Graduate Handbook is updated with current policies and procedures as approved by the SOE Graduate Student Council and specific departmental requirements.
Works closely with the Dean for Graduate Education to establish new online programs and to ensure their success in anticipation of rapid, substantial growth of on-line graduate programs.
Assumes a leadership role working in a highly collaborative and positive manner to develop distance-learning opportunities for the School of Engineering. This includes overseeing any distance learning staff and working collectively across the schools and departments and distance-learning vendors.
Develops standardized evaluation and metrics processes across the departments to facilitate improved student/adviser expectations and communications. This includes providing faculty tools for implementing best practices for advising mentorship for graduate students working as teaching assistants, research assistants.
D evelops and executes all graduate student RA and TA training and coordinates with both the office of equal opportunity (OEO) and the international center to ensure students are prepared to integrate and participate as respectful citizens in the Tufts Community. These training sessions occur at the beginning of each semester and prepare students to understand the roles and responsibilities they are expected to fulfill and help establish tools to help guide students in communication skills. Develops diversity & inclusion initiatives for graduate education.
Master's degree in a related discipline preferred.
A minimum of 6 years related professional work experience in an academic environment.
Demonstrated excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and disability backgrounds of graduate students and employees.
Doctoral degree in a related field.
10 years of related professional work experience.
Demonstrated understanding of outcome assessment and continuous quality improvement.
Related professional work experience with distance learning and on-line programs.
