The Assistant Director of Aquatics manages and supervises Recreational Sports aquatic facilities, programs, special events and personnel for the students, faculty, staff and public members of IU Recreational Sports – over 1.9 million users annually. This position includes the supervision of 70 lifeguards, 35 swim instructors, twelve head lifeguards, and eight outdoor pool managers at four aquatic locations: the Counsilman/Billingsley Aquatic Center (CBAC) at the Student Recreational Sports Center (SRSC), Royer Pool and Pool 194 at the School of Public Health (SPH), and the IU Recreational Sports Outdoor Pool Complex. The Assistant Director of Aquatics coordinates lifeguard staffing for all indoor and outdoor pools; development and implementation of the aquatic emergency action plans; facility operations for all indoor and outdoor pools; and all aquatic programs and other participant focused programming. This also includes facilitating all outside user groups to ensure maximum use of aquatic spaces, including hosting competitive aquatics events at the CBAC. This position reports to the Program Director for Aquatics, works with a highly collaborative aquatic team made up of another Assistant Director of Aquatics, one Graduate Assistant and two Program Assistants, and contributes to all unit priorities.
