The Communications Specialist will work with Communications Team members to discover and develop content that will promote the services and resources of the Ohio Technology Consortium (OH-TECH) and its vertical member organizations (OhioLINK, OARnet and the Ohio Supercomputer Center) to each group’s stakeholders, including policymakers and the public at large, through traditional and online media channels. The specialist must be an excellent writer, possess good organization skills, show initiative in the midst of ambiguity, be able to translate sophisticated technology concepts into lay terms, and bring a fresh approach to communications strategies. The specialist will work alongside a director, manager and student employee in the Content Group, as well as with various employees within the Creative Group and designated communications liaisons where they exist within the vertical and partner organizations.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated ability to communicate successfully with diverse user groups, which may include vendors, government agencies, university staff and administration, and end users. Excellent organizational, analytical, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service, to both internal and external audiences. Demonstrated ability to successfully produce engaging content on deadline in traditional, social and online media. Work experience working with communications project planning. Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, supervise a subordinate staff member, collaborate in a team environment and work under deadline. Demonstrated ability to use or learn a variety of relevant software and tools, including Microsoft Office Word (review and commenting), Outlook and Excel, and basic WYSIWYG editing systems for web content entry and layout. Additional skills with Adobe Photoshop and InDesign are a plus. This position requires some travel, primarily in-state, occasionally out-of-state.
Communications experience with content creation activities in the technology and/or academic environment. Knowledge of Associated Press style and basic graphic design principles. Experience writing promotional video scripts.
Target Salary: $18.00 - $23.00 Hourly
