As a member of Transportation & Parking, this position provides maintenance and repair services to Campus Bus Fleet and all other University vehicles needing maintenance and/or repair; services, diagnoses and repairs air conditioning, air brakes, electrical, suspension, exhaust, cooling, charging, steering, drivetrain and transmission systems of buses, cars and trucks; performs maintenance, tune-up analysis, repair, rebuild and modification of buses, cars and trucks; performs recovery of inoperative vehicles in the field, utilizing heavy duty diesel powered wrecker; keeps accurate and up to date records of maintenance and repair; operates brake and drum roto lathes, tire mounting and balancing equipment, oxy-acetylene torch, Arc and M.I.G. welders, air conditioning evacuation and charging equipment, drill press, hydraulic press, pneumatic and electric tools; attends meetings and trainings; may work evenings, weekends and special events; requires completion of successful background check.
7th grade education or higher; 300 hours of training (or three months of experience) in auto mechanics, or equivalent. MAYREQUIRE DRIVER'S LICENSE. May require applicable commercial driver's license.
Experience with hydraulics systems and controls; understanding and accurately interpret modern electrical diagrams; 2-3 years of experience with diesel engines including the ability to overhaul component rebuild (injectors, fuel pumps, etc.) charged air system, electrical, and fuel systems; experience with transmission diagnostics and rebuild; 15 years of experience with automotive diagnostics and repair; experience with air brake systems; experience with pneumatics and controls; experience with diagnosing and repairing HVAC systems; certification with Caterpillar, International, and Cummins engines.
Target Salary: $18.58 - $23.33 Hourly
