At Stony Brook Medicine, a TH Patient Accounting Specialist is a valuable member of our team, who provides administrative and executive support and has the ability to interface with all levels of management throughout the hospital.

Duties of a TH Patient Accounting Specialist in the Business Office may include the following but are not limited to:
Act in the role of the Third Party Audit Coordinator. Act as liaison between SBUMC and the RAC Contractor, SBU HIM, SBU Care Management and other third party payers and contractors regarding open audits as required. Maintain RAC Tracker software too.
Complete daily, weekly, monthly departmental metrics and productivity reporting.
Interface with appropriate University offices, agencies and outside agencies to collect information to fulfill and satisfy A/R.
Work closely with the Associate Director of Patient Accounts and Supervisor of Governmental Billing.
Assist in the completion of departmental performance improvement initiatives/projects including providing analytical support, documenting business office/revenue cycle work flows and tracking of project outcomes.
Assist the Director of Patient Accounts with all audits from governmental agencies and internal audits on A/R.
Special projects assigned by the Director of Patient Financial Services or Associate Director of Patient Accounts.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree plus at least four year's of experience in a healthcare/revenue cycle billing office with a minimum of two years in a supervisory role or in lieu of a degree, ten year's experience in a billing office. Proficiency in software packages, i.e., database packages, spreadsheets and word processing applications. Excellent oral, written and highly developed interpersonal interaction communication skills. Knowledge of HIPPA, Compliance and Government regulations as they pertain to a hospital billing office.
Preferred Qualifications: In depth knowledge of Governmental Billing in a healthcare/revenue cycle business office. Experience with Claims Scrubber & Omnipro, electronic remittances. Technical knowledge of Monarch or Sequal. Knowledge of Cerner Invision or Cerner Millenium. Must be able to handle several tasks simultaneously.
