Job Description Summary
The Technical Director is responsible for directing the technical aspects of the theatre's production operation. Collaborates with faculty and staff in production and performance activities. Oversees the work of student technicians and designers. This position is responsible for overseeing upkeep and safe use of theatre facilities and equipment

Schedules and supervises construction and rigging of sets for mainstage theatre and dance productions.
Oversees construction and rigging for student productions.
Participates in production planning with designers and drafts working drawings.
Attends technical and dress rehearsals for mainstage theatre and dance productions.
Purchases and maintains materials, supplies, and equipment for scenic construction, properties, painting, lighting, and sound production areas, using allocated budget.
Oversees upkeep of theatre production spaces, fixtures, and equipment.
Maintains safety procedures and hazardous materials record keeping.
Occasionally lectures on technical aspects of theatre in departmental classes.
Coordinates and supervises outside groups in their use of theatre spaces. Arranges and supervises the borrowing, loan and/or rental of theatre equipment/props with outside groups and other theatres.
Schedules and supervises technical production work to meet deadlines and budgets.
Trains and supervises paid student assistants.
Trains and supervises theatre lab students, and run crews annually.
Trains and supervises student production in crews.
Maintains compliance with all appropriate policies and regulations regarding safety and material handling.
Medium work: exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Climbing, kneeling, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing. Close visual acuity. Subject to inside environmental conditions; may be subject to hazards and subject to atmospheric conditions (fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation).
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
BFA or BA/BS in a related field plus three years directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proficiency in wood and metal construction, counterweight fly system, rigging, CAD, drafting.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Experience as a Technical Director or Assistant Technical Director.
