JOBSUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of an assignedsupervisor, this position performs animal experiments that may involve generalmaintenance of animal colonies, and performs animal manipulations andsurgeries.
Performs animal procedures and animal colony management that includes, walking to and from the animal facilities, performing basic husbandry, performing animal manipulations (surgery, injections, tissue isolation for genotyping), changing animal caging as needed, and daily census and observations on the animal colony.
Performs general lab work and maintenance.
Checks the equipment weekly to ensure proper functioning.
Catalogs lab supplies and sterilization of solution and supplies (pipette tips, bottles, etc.).
Maintains the general lab cleanliness (wash empty bottles; wipes tabletop, autoclave biohazard waste, paper towels, etc.).
Logs daily activities in notebook to be reviewed by the PI.
Assists supervisor with other experiments for completion.
Performs molecular and cell experiments. Performs genomic DNA isolation and PCR analysis for genotyping.
Learns and performs protein isolation and protein measurement assays such as Western blot analysis or ELISA.
Performs mathematical calculations to make solutions; measured concentration of biological samples by spectrophotometer.
Performs other related duties assigned.
