The new Senior Associate Dean will assume leadership of an already successful program and will bring both a compelling vision of Ivy-League executive education and the ability to lead staff and deploy resources so as to operationalize that vision in a sustained and profitable way. The Senior Associate Dean will build on the division's current strong state to ensure that Columbia's executive-education programs remain known for innovation and excellence and continue to provide compelling opportunities for working executives to benefit from Columbia's position "at the very center of business."
The Senior Associate Dean works at the executive level with faculty and senior staff across the School as well as with partners and clients beyond Columbia to develop and deliver high-quality custom and open-enrollment executive-education programs worldwide for middle- and senior-level executives in public, private, government, and not-for-profit sectors. Engaging local, regional, national, and international organizations, the Senior Associate Dean develops effective strategies for establishing new programs, driving innovation in executive education, and maximizing revenue opportunities while sustaining the School's commitment to the highest educational quality. Columbia Executive Education, like the other divisions of the Business School, will advance the mission of bridging theory and practice and fostering academic and social exchanges that give students the structure and opportunities they need to advance in personal and professional capacities.

Reporting directly to the Dean of Columbia Business School, the Senior Associate Dean leads all activities of the Executive Education division and develops the strategic vision and direction for the enterprise.
The Senior Associate Dean is responsible for the financial performance of the division. The Senior Associate Dean and the division's staff ensure that the necessary business systems and processes are supported and are in alignment with the School's mission.
Manages the implementation of the strategic marketing and sales plan for the delivery of executive education programs to middle- and senior-level executives in the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors.
Working with the Dean, the Program Directors, the Advisory Committee, and other senior staff assesses the success of each category of programs offered in comparison to competitors, articulated client expectations, demand, and the division's long-term plans.
Oversees the management of the School's corporate relationships in Executive Education.
Works with faculty and practitioners in the development, design, and delivery of new and customized programs.
Recruits and facilitates the development of faculty to teach and participate in the division's programs.
Continually enhances the net profitability of the entire Executive Education program.
Represents Columbia Business School Executive Education nationally and internationally.
Manages the performance of all assigned personnel.
In addition to these core responsibilities, the Senior Associate Dean - working with School leadership, the Advisory Committee, and faculty - will further define, mobilize appropriate resources for, and advance certain overarching objectives that will keep Executive Education a worthy dimension of Columbia Business School and a provider in this space that is known for innovation, rigor, value, and impact:
Ensure that Columbia Business School Executive Education is at the forefront of its field in program design and delivery, in participant experience, and in subsequent engagement between participants and the School.
Inspire and reward greater participation in Executive Education on the part of the full faculty of the School.
Continue to pursue and catalyze innovation in curriculum, delivery / modality, and participant experience.
Ensure that Executive Education is advancing the School's and the University's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in its programs, staff, and culture.
Foster deeper and more senior-level collaborations with the organizations that partner with Columbia Business School.
With input from and in collaboration with the full faculty of the School, help the Advisory Committee grow into an active and engaged partner in innovation, strategy, and governance.
Participate in the transition to the new Manhattanville home of the Business School (in particular the facilities designed for and dedicated to Executive Education) and provide leadership in the ongoing optimization of space and programming.
Explore collaborations with other areas of Columbia University that offer opportunities to shape curriculum, participant experiences, delivery models, or other facets of Executive Education in distinctive ways.
The Senior Associate Dean will work closely with both internal and external stakeholders, including faculty, chairs, the Dean, other senior staff, and University administration as well as with corporate executives, business leaders, and managers of local, national, and international organizations. Because of this extensive contact, the Senior Associate Dean will have the leadership presence, industry knowledge, academic focus, and business sensibility necessary to build strong relationships, represent Columbia Business School, and advance the mission of the Executive Education division. They will bring a keen sense of the business of executive education and in particular the competitive threats posed by new market entrants, along with the market awareness and business savvy to continue to position Columbia as a highly branded, strategically differentiated provider. They will also demonstrate a track record of successful work advancing institutional goals in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Qualified candidates will have a minimum of 10 years of related experience and the capacity to manage and establish complex institutional relationships with senior executives worldwide. The demonstrated ability to analyze and communicate the internal and external needs of these organizations in the design and implementation of tailored and customized programs is required. Candidates must also have substantial experience managing a large staff, financial resources, technology, and sales. Travel is required for the sake of building and sustaining partner relationships, developing resources, and representing Columbia Executive Education nationally and internationally.
An undergraduate degree from an accredited institution is required.
The Senior Associate Dean position does not entail appointment to the full faculty of the School. Depending on qualifications and interest, the Senior Associate Dean may hold an adjunct faculty appointment and may teach within Executive Education to an extent consistent with their commitment to leading the division.
