Indiana University seeks an Executive Director for its renowned Center for the Study of Global Change. The Center is a national and university-wide hub for intellectual activity, publishing, teaching, and professional development related to international education and global and area studies. A core component of the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies, the Global Center is the recipient of major grants from the Social Science Research Council, the U.S. Department of Education, the MacArthur Foundation, the U.S. Department of Defense, the British Council, the Mellon Foundation, and others. The Hamilton Lugar School is the nation's largest recipient of Area Studies and language education grants under Title VI of the Department of Education's International and Foreign Language Education Program. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2020. The Executive Director would plan, initiate, and oversee a vigorous research, programming, and educational outreach agenda.
The Center for the Study of Global Change promotes analysis and research on global phenomena and advances interdisciplinary global learning and research. The Global Center is recognized for its innovative approaches to scholarship and its contribution to the comprehensive internationalization of higher education. The Global Center is engaged in a systematic and sustained effort to infuse global perspectives, high-quality language instruction, and global workforce skills in graduate, undergraduate, and Pre-K-12 teaching and learning across Indiana and the nation. The Global Center is designated as a Department of Education Title VI National Resource Center and is a primary coordinating hub for other Title VI NRCs in the Hamilton Lugar School.
Beyond the center itself, the Director will have a senior leadership role in coordinating grant activities and proposals among the 10 federally-funded language and area studies centers within the Hamilton Lugar School. The Hamilton Lugar School currently houses eight National Resources Centers, two Language Resource Centers, and eight Foreign Language Area Studies (FLAS), more than any other university in the United States. The Executive Director will oversee all Global Center programs and projects as well as coordinate and guide joint programs and outreach of HLS's area studies centers, particularly the other U.S. Department of Education Title VI National Resource Centers.
In leading the Global Center, the new director will work to further the mission of the Global Center by overseeing a wide range of principal programmatic and academic activities. These include but are not limited to the following:
A wide range of scholarly symposiums, conferences, exhibits, and lectures on transnational issues and global challenges
Professional development around global learning and internationalization for staff and administrators of higher education, including the nationally-recognized Institute for Curriculum and Campus Internationalization
Internationalizing Indiana's educational pipeline, which involves the Global Employability Project with Career and Technical Education Programs, a partnership with Ivy Tech Community College, and advancing high-quality proficiency based language learning in schools.

Innovative social media initiatives, such as the Muslim Voices Project
Curriculum development around global issues and the advancement of lesser commonly taught language instruction across the curriculum of Indiana University Bloomington

Support of and Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) and David Albright Memorial Scholarships.
As PI of the Global Center's Department of Education Title VI National Resource Grant, the Executive Director is also responsible for the successful management of the grant and all of its proposed programming and projects. The director will be expected to sustain the Global Center's long-standing track record of writing successful grants.
With the Global Center as the primary hub for the other area studies centers in HLS, the new director will also oversee and coordinate joint initiatives and collaborative projects. The new executive director will supervise the International Education Outreach Administrator, who will support many of the Title VI outreach initiatives and help strengthen community engagement for HLS and the Title VI centers. The new director will also contribute to HLS's centralized oversight of coordinated proposal development for the next Title VI grant competition, which is anticipated to occur in 2022. In this capacity, the executive director will work closely with the HLS Executive Associate Dean, pre-award and post-award grants staff, HLS centralized service staff, and the faculty and staff of all area studies centers to help coordinate the upcoming competition and work with HLS central staff to assist with individual centers' proposal development efforts.
Applicants should possess a PhD or other terminal degree, a strong track record in educational and research administration in international education and area or global studies, as well as demonstrated scholarly and practical experience in overseeing internationalization of higher education and global and area studies. The capacity to work collaboratively with faculty and staff across units, schools, and disciplines is required, as is experience in successful grant writing. Candidate must have a record of managerial experience, ideally within the field of international education, including evidence of capacity to supervise a team with broad and varied responsibilities. Demonstrated commitment to and experience working with diverse populations is extremely important
Familiarity with Title VI National Resource Center and FLAS fellowship programs, as well as other international programs in other federal agencies, is preferred, as is experience with management of federal grants.
