The Department of American Indian Studies, College of Liberal Arts, invites applications for a full-time faculty position (open rank, tenured or tenure-track) beginning fall semester 2020 (08/31/2020).
Appointment will be 100% time over the nine-month academic year (late August to late May). Appointment will be at the rank of tenure-track assistant professor, tenured associate professor, or tenured professor, depending on qualifications and experience, and consistent with collegiate and University policy. Salary is competitive.
This search is open as to field. Among the areas we are interested in are Politics/Governance/Law, Native Arts, Environmental Studies, or Literature and Film. Expertise in Oceti Sakowin studies and/or Dakota language is desirable.
Appropriate terminal degree is required (PhD, MFA, etc), as is an excellent record of research and/or creative production, teaching, advising, and service. If applying at the Associate Professor or Full Professor level, the ideal candidates will be those with a distinguished record of teaching, advising, and service, preferably including administrative experience at a research institution.
Candidates will be evaluated according to a) overall quality of their academic preparation and scholarly work, b) relevance of their scholarly research to the department's academic priorities and fields of inquiry, c) evidence of commitment to teaching and skills as a teacher, and d) strength of recommendations.
Faculty in the Department of American Indian Studies in the College of Liberal Arts are expected to maintain an active research agenda that includes publication, teach courses in area(s) of specialty as well as core AIS curriculum, advise students, and contribute service to the department, college, university, profession, and broader communities as appropriate.
