Reporting to the Director, the Grants Manager will provide technical and analytical expertise to Principal Investigators and staff involved in externally funded projects, working on the completion of grant and contract proposals, the Grants Manager will serve as a University expert on the programs, policies, and directions of federal, state, professional associations, and corporate and foundation granting agencies. The Grants Manager will also provide input on the development and revision of policies and procedures that enhance research, scholarly, artistic and service activities, especially with respect to federal agencies and provide administrative support to the Fund for Research Committee and the Institutional Review Board. As a University committed to diversity, equity and inclusion, we seek candidates who embody these values and who have proven experience working successfully with individuals across a broad spectrum of identifies and perspectives.Pre-award ManagementAssist and provide guidance to faculty and staff in the preparation and submission of proposals for external funding agencies;Maintain tools to support Sponsored Program project and program management;Provide high quality customer service and maintain effective communication with various University offices;Counsel faculty on sponsor regulations and proposal submission requirements;Prepare detailed budgets for proposal submissions in compliance with Simmons and sponsor policies, working with Payroll to ensure accuracy and currency of compensation information;Prepare and circulate internal proposal approval forms;Develop competitive, compliant proposal packages including administrative items, drafting boilerplate documentation, and identifying data required for proposal submissionWork with sub-awardees and vendors to complete all required paperwork, adhering to their internal proposal review timelines;Ensure pre-award sub-recipient monitoring activities are completed prior to proposal submission;Submit proposals through Grants.gov, other proposal submission portals and via agency specific electronic proposal submission systems;Prepare and submit post-award online continuation applications, internal and external grant budget revisions, carry over balance budget requests, etc.;Serve as administrator for the University for all electronic research administration systems, including NSF FastLane/Research.gov, NIH eRA Commons, etc.;Communicate with vendors, sub-recipients and funding agencies for problem solving;Analyze department policy and procedures, recommending changes to streamline processes;Alert Operation Directors and Grant Accountant to potential award concerns with sponsors regarding non-financial award management matters; Assist in the planning and development of seminars, workshops as well as related materials;Remain current on trends and changes in the industry including changing regulations which impact research funding and grants.Compliance - Institutional Review Board (IRB)Provide administrative support to the IRB, working closely with the committee co-chairs;Identify and distribute IRB educational materials and documenting researcher compliance;Ensure the timely filing of all IRB registration documents;Maintain the IRB database, files and website;Receive protocols, coordinate the distribution of the protocols to reviewers, as well as manage/generate all correspondence with committee members and faculty and student investigators;Schedule meetings and preparing meeting minutes;Serve as administrator for the CITI Training programs related to the use of human subjects in research;Manage IRB budget.QualificationsBachelor?s degree or equivalent combination of experience and education5+ years of relevant grant and contract experience, preferably in Higher EducationStrong ability to multi-taskAbility to provide management and leadership in a growth-oriented organizationStrong organizational skills and the ability to work in quick-paced environmentAbility to communicate effectively with diverse groups and collaborate with staff around a variety of projectsStrong oral and written communication skillsDemonstrated ability to design and maintain databasesStrong computer and analytical skillsWorking knowledge of federal contract administration and IRB regulations preferred.Required Application Materials: ResumeCover LetterSalary GradeS07Instructions to Applicants: Please upload all applicable application materials (e.g. resume/cv, cover letter, writing sample, teaching philosophy, etc.) in the "Resume/CV" box on page 2 ("My Experience") of this application.
