Summary: The Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment is responsible for the coordination and oversight of key evaluation processes that support mission fulfillment and spur quality assurance in academic programs, administrative units, and student support services. This position is responsible for overseeing student learning outcomes assessment for the University, coordinating the process by which program/office level assessment is conducted, and shaping how assessment results are reviewed and used for continuous quality improvement. This position reports to the Assistant Provost for University Programs.
This is a full-time, 12-month administrative position and is exempt from provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is not eligible to earn overtime pay for hours worked above 40 in a single work week.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate and facilitate academic program assessment and review for all university programs by working in partnership with department/program chairs, academic deans, and the Provost’s Office
Facilitate assessment of administrative units and student support services
Collaborate with department/program chairs, faculty leaders, academic deans, and the Provost’s Office to nurture a culture that supports good assessment practices in academic and co-curricular areas
Work with faculty and administrative leadership to monitor the university’s assessment processes and make recommendations for improvement as needed
Work in partnership with the Director of Institutional Research and the Vice President of Strategy towards institutional improvements
Prepare high-quality reports of assessment results to be shared with administrators, faculty, staff, and external accreditation agencies
Work closely with the university’s Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) liaison to ensure on-going institutional accreditation compliance and continued good standing
Provide thoughtful analysis to support decision-making, assessment, planning, and support for strategic campus initiatives
Participate in regional and national institutional effectiveness and assessment groups and organizations to better understand and study critical issues in higher education
Other duties and special projects may be assigned to meet department and university needs
Experience, Knowledge, and Skills Required:
Master’s degree required in higher education, public administration, social science, educational psychology, applied statistics or related field of study required; doctoral degree preferred
Prior experience with practices to assess student learning in academic programs in higher education
Demonstrated quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across a broad range of constituents to accomplish organizational level initiatives
Detail-oriented, able to follow-up and follow-through to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Demonstrated passion for supporting an organization’s inclusive mission
Ability to work independently and as a team member
Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality of privileged information and perform duties that require independent judgement and discretion
Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
Proficiency with standard office software packages, e.g. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint; proficiency with Tableau or other data visualization tools a plus
