Essential Job Duties:
The House Director will coordinate the student development and administrative functions of an Organization-Owned Sorority House and the community within. This position will be directly responsible for the following:
Advising: - Directly advise undergraduate House Manager position for the organization. - Create a sense of community by promoting peer accountability among chapter residents. - Provide training on organizational and university policies reinforcing community standards. - Maintain a high level of visibility within the residential community for the purpose of serving as an on-site advisor to chapter residents including, but not limited to, regular office hours, chapter programming, chapter meals. - Meet regularly with organization leadership, advisors, and House Corporation volunteers. - Advise student residents on the development and implementation of programs, applicable policies and procedures, risk management, issues management, leadership development and organization management. - Lead and/or assist in the planning, hosting and/or presentation of programs to meet the developmental needs of members. - Serve as a mediator to assist residents in addressing community conflicts when they arise. - Maintain an environment conducive to student academic success and safety.
Leadership: - Provide leadership, administrative operations, programming and facilities management in a residential house composed of 100-150 student members. - Make informed decisions based on a clear understanding of the impact and consequences involved. - Create and maintain an open and inclusive community within the house. - Serve as a communication link between Fraternity and Sorority Life, House Corporation, and residents. - Exercise good judgement and remain unbiased and impartial while addressing house issues. - Participate in area decision-making regarding policies, procedures, programs, and facilities management. - Oversee daily operations including facilities, overall resident management, occupancy management, and financial budget management to ensure a positive, healthy and safe living-learning environment for our residents.
Policy Enforcement: - Respond appropriately to student concerns and manage student issues. - Follow all University policies and procedures, and guidelines including safety, civility, information security and non-discrimination policies and procedures. - Consult with the Associate Director to refer cases to the Organizational Standards Board, Department of Fraternity and Sorority Life, or the Office of Student Conduct, as appropriate.
Crisis Management and On-Call Responsibilities: - Make appropriate referrals to University support services: Student Health, Counseling Services, Ombuds services. - Respond to emergencies and provide leadership in crisis situations. - Must reside onsite overnight except when prior arrangements have been made for time away. - Demonstrate ability to work effectively under pressure. -Practice effective communication with University administration, organizational leadership and, if applicable, emergency personnel.
Administration: - Coordinate fall and spring student check-in and checkout system. - Coordinate and direct the opening and closing of the house, as well as any key fob or entry fob distribution and records. - Mange room assignment and room change process for the facility. - Keep appropriate administrative records such as meal plan participation to conduct meal plan participation,and parlor fee billing for the organization through the Out-of-House Manager portal of MyPack.
Facilities: - Coordinate inspections as required by the University, state, federal, or local agencies. - Tour buildings and grounds on a regular basis to identify facility needs. - Solicit building improvement ideas from staff and residents. - Work in conjunction with Fraternity and Sorority Life staff and organizational leadership to ensure the community is well maintained and a safe environment for residents.
House Directors are required to live within the house they support, they are provided an apartment within the facility (utilities included), a campus parking pass, and a meal plan when the facility is open.
Require post-baccalaureate credentials or a bachelor's degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.
Ability to perform basic to intermediate functions of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
Ability to work independently and maintain confidential information.
Professional and diplomatic interactions with students, parents, alumni, service providers, campus partners, and community resources.
Strong interpersonal skills, particularly with college-age men, including patience, flexibility, and problem solving.
Ability to climb up and down several flights of stairs and lift 25 pounds if necessary.
Must be onsite, overnight, 7 nights per week when members are in residence, except when prior arrangements have been made for other facility supervision.
Excellent organization and communication abilities.
