Assistant Dean of Development - Eberly College of Arts & Sciences 12211
The Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University is seeking an Assistant Dean for Development. The Assistant Dean will be responsible for generating gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations. In consultation with the Dean of the Eberly College, the incumbent will be responsible for the creation and implementation of a comprehensive development plan to reach the college's strategic fundraising goals of 5 to 7 million dollars. The incumbent will supervise a staff of development professionals, prepare and administer a development budget, work with the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences administrators, chairs, directors, faculty, and staff, and coordinate efforts with the WVU Foundation to identify and cultivate donors and develop and implement annual giving and communication plans.
In order to be successful in this role, the ideal applicant will:
Create and implement a comprehensive development plan, outlining goals, objectives, and activities assuring aggressive completion of the plan goals in timely fashion.
Work with Eberly College faculty, staff, and volunteers, and the appropriate personnel of the WVU Foundation, to identify priorities for private support consistent with specific resource requirements of the College, establish and maintain operational goals, and define budgetary requirements for each development program activity.
Work with Eberly College faculty, staff, and volunteers, and the appropriate personnel of the WVU Foundation, to develop a program to identify potential donors, determining possible levels of support, and matching prospect interests with the priority needs of the College.
Develop and execute a comprehensive donor relations and stewardship plan utilizing information provided by the WVU Foundation.
Develop and execute a plan to generate annual gift revenue for the College through direct mail, the Foundation's Mountaineer Line, Mountaineer Mark, and Campus Campaign programs, and other opportunities as may develop.
Comply with all WVU Foundation reporting and accountability standards and coordinate development efforts with the WVU Foundation as needed.
Develop and execute various special events to generate new prospects, or to generate revenue in support of defined prospects, coordinating with all appropriate offices across campus, and at the WVU Foundation.
Supervise all development office professional and classified staff, including development of career, annual, monthly and other goals for staff as appropriate, and participate in the College and University's human resource functions as necessary, including conducting performance evaluations, resolving problems, and documenting information.
Maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of the College, including its mission and history, and current priorities assuring effective representation of all aspects of the College and its opportunities and priorities for private support.
Manage a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects, as defined by working with the WVU Foundation, from initial identification through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
Plan, schedule, and complete frequent travel, including overnight, to make contact with prospects and donors in completion of portfolio management. The majority of travel is in West Virginia and surrounding region, with some national travel.
Plan, organize, and implement development strategies for all special or capital projects, as appropriate.
Initiate and facilitate collegial relationships and open communications with other Foundation and University development staff, and other University and Eberly College constituents in advancing the mission of the College.
Complete other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Dean of designates in advancement of the Eberly College development mission.
Master's Degree Required
Experience in development with a history of successful major gift solicitations.
Preference will be given to candidates with greater experience in development; experience in managing frontline fundraising staff; experience with programs in higher education; experience at a comprehensive university.
