The Wellness Assistant is a part-time health educator position, ideal for someone interested in pursuing a career in health promotion in higher education. The Wellness Assistant will assist the Wellness Manager in the supervision and support of a large staff of peer health educators and the development, implementation, and evaluation of health and wellness programming at Mount Saint Mary's University. This position is part-time, limited term for a duration of 12 months and working no more than 20 hours per week.
Assist Wellness Manager in training, management, and supervision of student staff (Peer Wellness Advocates) in day-to-day duties, as well as assist in guiding student staff in their programming efforts.
Build strong professional relationships with student staff
Think creatively and critically about current and future Sports and Wellness program offerings.
Facilitate health and wellness presentations to department's student staff and campus organizations or classes by request.
Develop measurable learning objectives for wellness programs and services
Interest in the health/wellness field required
Preferred applicant must have some scope of knowledge in health topics including nutrition, stress management, fitness, and sleep hygiene to accurately guide student staff's programming efforts.
Abilities and Skills:
Preferred applicants for this position must have excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred applicants will be self-starting, and organized, and possess strong attention to detail.
Bachelor's degree required in related area including public health, health administration, nutrition, psychology, nursing, or other related field.
Current enrollment in Master's program in a related field preferred
Required at least six months of experience in program planning, preferably related to wellness/health promotion (undergraduate or intern experience considered).
Prefer prior management experience
Prefer experience as a peer health educator
Work Location: Both Chalon Campus (West Los Angeles) and Doheny Campus (Downtown Los Angeles)
