North Carolina Agricultural and Technical (N.C. A&T) State University seeks applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College of Education. The next dean will be a visionary leader with a commitment to excellence in preparing educators and human services professionals to lead and engage in higher education, the local community and on the global stage.
The Dean of the College of Education is the chief academic and administrative officer of the College and reports to the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs. Leadership and management responsibilities include the following: administration of instructional and research programs, budgetary management, faculty development, human resource management, grantsmanship and fundraising, evaluation and assessment of educational programs, management of relations with accrediting agencies, and development and maintenance high academic standards for the community of scholars in the College. The Dean also oversees recruitment; evaluation; reappointment, promotion and tenure of faculty; post-tenure review; faculty development in teaching, scholarship, research, and grant procurement; and actively participates in fundraising.

An 1890 Land Grant University, N.C. A&T enjoys a long-standing national reputation in learning, discovery, and engagement. With a student body in excess of 11,700 and approximately 600 full-time faculty, N.C. A&T offers undergraduate and graduate degrees through eight schools and colleges. The University graduates the largest number of African American in engineering, science, and technology in the nation. It offers over 40 master's and Ph.D. programs.
The University is one of the sixteen constituent institutions of the University of North Carolina (UNC) System and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). The strategic vision focuses the University on teaching and learning, civic engagement, transformative research, and creative scholarship.
The College of Education offers bachelors, master's and doctoral degrees through the following departments: Administration and Instructional Services, Counseling, Educator Preparation, and Leadership Studies and Adult Education. The College of Education is urban-focused, with the primary aim to recruit and prepare future educators and other professionals to effectively address issues of the urban community. The teacher education programs within the College of Education are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Preparation (CAEP) and are approved by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. All of the counselor education programs within the College of Education are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Programs (CACREP). An earned Doctorate in education or a closely related field, with teaching and administrative experience in higher education. Experience with accreditation and other quality assurance standards. The Dean must have a proven record of teaching, research and scholarship, educational management, professional service, and grant procurement, commensurate with appointment at the rank of professor.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; excellent budget management skills; successful record of fundraising; a strong record of effective organization and administration/management/supervision, with demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a team member; a commitment to student learning and promoting a culture that values diversity. The preferred candidate has a history of successful, collaborative, solution-oriented, and transparent leadership. The Dean is expected to demonstrate emotional intelligence and collaborate with internal and external strategic partners, including K-12 and other stakeholders.
