The Vice President for Research Office at Indiana University is responsible for research development, research compliance, and research administration. Working with university-wide offices, campus leaders, and deans, the Vice President for Research Office works to increase and diversify research and creative activities at IU, attract external funding for these activities, and develop public-private partnerships, technology transfer, graduate education, and intercampus research opportunities.
The Office of the Vice President for Research seeks a Financial/Human Resources Assistant to provide administrative support for the Human Resources and Finance group and to greet and assist visitors in the Office of the Vice President for Research (VPR) and the Office of Vice Provost for Research (OVPR). The Financial/HR Assistant will process HR and financial documents; create and maintain internal files, both electronic and paper; serve as payroll processor backup; create and approve the necessary day-to-day financial transactions and assist with financial management of accounts.
The Financial/HR Assistant will participate in and assist with the recruitment, selection and hiring for staff; oversee the day-to-day activities of space and facilities in multiple locations on 2 campuses; and serve as a liaison and resource for VPR internal organizations as well as IU departments such as Human Resources, Purchasing, Payroll, FMS, and Travel.
REQUIRED: High school diploma or GED and two years of office experience in human resources and/or finance.
Possess a valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.
Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills. Ability to exercise independent judgment and decision making, including outstanding problem-solving skills. Good attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to multi-task and maintain a calm demeanor in difficult situations. Ability to properly screen, prioritize, and direct sensitive and confidential information. Aptitude for learning and working with new software. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office software. Ability to prioritize tasks and independent decision-making skills.
Bachelor’s degree. IU experience, particularly in IU systems such as HRMS and KFS.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
Travel between Bloomington and IUPUI campuses. Requires concentration to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions; ability to work for long periods at a computer station; ability to handle confidential issues.
