Essential Job Duties:
The COSS Support Specialist is a member of the staff of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension (NCCE). The Support Specialist's primary responsibility is to provide support to the Extension staff where assigned. The Support Specialist cooperates with colleagues in the NCCE and county leaders in performing assigned responsibilities. The performance of assigned responsibilities is governed by the philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of the NCCE.
This position performs administrative duties for the Johnston County Cooperative Extension at the local level.
The duties include: Phone and lobby reception. Preparing and distributing forms, educational literature and various program related materials. Assists assigned agents with composition and editing of routine correspondence. Preparing newsletters from rough draft materials provided by Extension agents. Posting newsletters and educational materials to html. Establishing and maintaining files. Preparing spreadsheets and database records as needed. Maintains financial records for program related grants. Preparing and bundling bulk mailing of monthly newsletters according to the US postal guidelines. Operate (and maintain) a variety of standard office machines, including personal computers, phone, fax, shredding machine and photocopy machine. Participate in team meetings and activities.
Graduation from high school and two years office assistance and secretarial experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Experience in web-page management, desktop publishing, newsletter design and preparation preferred.
Must be highly motivated and innovative.
Must be a good team member and support and develop a positive work environment.
Must possess accurate typing, editing, and computer skills.
Extensive knowledge of computer applications is required including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
The ability to work on issues and maintain confidentiality is essential.
Good time-management skills and the ability to juggle multiple responsibilities.
Discretion, diplomacy, sound judgment and the ability to solve problems independently.
Good interpersonal communication skills and teamwork ability is required.
General understanding of HTML and web page development and maintenance is preferred.
Must have a willingness to learn new relevant software programs as they become available.
Required license or certification:
Valid driver's license and reliable, personal transportation required.
