Lead Carpenter in the Campus Maintenance Carpentry Shop who fills in for the Shop Supervisor in the supervisor’s absence. Serves as lead technical resource for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs required in building carpentry, i.e., flooring, windows, doors, interior trim, cabinetry, solid surfaces, framing, siding, acoustical ceilings, computer-access flooring, painting, metal framing, wall partitions, exterior columns, exposed beams, mantels, staircases, metal studs, lathes, and drywall; performs and/or assists in training and orientation of new shop personnel; ensures adherence to assigned workload schedules and notifies supervisor of deviations, delays or early completion; maintains proper stock of shop materials and maintains an adequate equipment/parts inventory for emergency and/or routine repairs.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Journey level carpentry experience; working knowledge of carpentry hand and shop tools; and ability to serve as a mandatory employee and report to work in support of mandatory University operations, even when adverse weather or other emergency conditions require the University to close.
Ten (10) or more years of experience as a journey level carpenter in an institutional or commercial environment.
