Building Services Department, Housing Support Section is seeking a Facility Maintenance Technician/Building Trades (Journey Level). Housing Support Maintains all residence halls and student family housing apartments on campus. Applicant(s) should have journey level experience in at least one major building trade (carpentry, electrical, plumbing) and have three years experience in at least one other building trade. This position will have daily contact with Housing and Housing Support departments and also require a great deal of planning to ensure minimal impact on students and staff.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Candidates must have journey level experience in one major building trade (carpentry, electrical, plumbing) with additional experience in a second building trade. Demonstrate working knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials used in industrial, commercial maintenance and repair. Ability to plan, problem-solve and work safely. Demonstrate great teamwork and communication skills with both fellow workers and housing staff. Ability to serve as a mandatory employee and report to work in support of mandatory university operations, even when adverse weather or other emergency conditions require the university to close.
Five years experience in industrial and commercial plumbing and three years experience in a second building trade preferred.
