The Director of Education, Research and Operations will be responsible for oversight of HGHI's educational, research, and operational strategy, and for oversight of the Faculty Directors' research team. S/He will work in close partnership with the Director of Content and Strategy to ensure integration of all programs and operations across HGHI.
Overseeing the Faculty Directors' research team, which includes research assistants, research fellows, and junior and senior analysts and biostatisticians based at various Harvard schools and hospitals, the incumbent will work in close partnership with senior leadership at HSPH and other Harvard institutions as appropriate to ensure that priorities are aligned and coordinated.
Overseeing all administrative and financial activities at HGHI, including budgeting, space planning, office management and human resources, the incumbent will work closely with the Office of the President and the Provost (OPP), Harvard University IT (HUIT), the Office of General Counsel (OGC), and key administrative and operational leadership at HSPH, to ensure on-going coordination and compliance with Harvard policies and procedures.
· Develop and oversee all new and ongoing educational activities, including efforts to create broad access to global health education online through LabExchange and HarvardX.
· Oversight of all administrative and financial activities, including budgeting, space planning, events, office management and human resources.
· Manage a diverse team of 12 or so staff members with 7-8 direct reports.
· Provide conceptual and operational support to the Faculty and Associate Faculty Director.
In partnership with the Director for Content and Strategy, develop plans and implement organizational structure for new initiatives; steward Institute funds appropriately and in keeping with donor terms; and link medium and long-term strategies to on-going activities and resource allocation decisions.
· Oversee and manage HGHI's educational initiatives, including course development, student engagement, and online learning opportunities.
· Oversee the creation of and manage an online resource for courses, centers, people and programs on Global Health at Harvard.
Work closely with schools, centers and hospitals to advance HGHI's education initiatives and oversee the student field experiential learning opportunities.
· Help troubleshoot and support compliance on research grants and research projects, working closely with faculty and the schools and hospitals where the grants are based.
Ensure that priorities are aligned, closely coordinated and that resources are available and allocated according to priorities.
Work closely with the Office of the President and the Provost (OPP), Harvard University IT (HUIT), the Office of General Counsel (OGC), and key administrative and operational leadership at HSPH, ensuring on-going communication, coordination and compliance with Harvard policies and procedures.
· Work closely with human resources at OPP and HSPH to ensure appropriate compliance as well as attracting and retaining of talent.
Link medium and long-term priorities and strategy to on-going activities and resource allocation decisions.
Work closely with affiliate hospitals to ensure grants are managed and monitored in compliance with the University's policies and procedures.
Develops and implements staff training across functional areas. Organizes team and management meetings and retreats.

Reporting to and working in partnership with the Faculty Director and the Associate Faculty Directors of the Harvard Global Health Institute (HGHI), the Director for Education, Research, and Operations is responsible for the execution of the educational, research, and operational vision of the Harvard Global Health Institute. The Director will also oversee operational support for the Institute's and the Faculty Directors' diverse research teams.
The Harvard Global Health Institute (HGHI) is a cross-university institute and collaborates with university and external partners around the world to develop the knowledge that will generate better outcomes for the health of the world's population. The Institute is led by Ashish K. Jha, Senior Associate Dean of Research Translation and Global Strategy and K.T. Li Professor at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (HSPH) and Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and the Associate Faculty Director Ingrid Katz, Assistant Professor in Medicine at Harvard Medical Schools, Associate Physician Department of Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Research Scientist at the Center for Global Health at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Candidates MUST meet the following basic qualifications in order to be considered for this role:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
Minimum of 10 years professional experience in an academic or other non-profit organization, ideally with senior leadership experience in an organization focused on education, research, or global health.
Advanced degree preferred. Demonstrated leadership, supervision, and communications skills, preferably in higher education or global health. Increasing level of responsibility in organizational design financial, human resources and general management.
Must have a successful track record and proven skills in all phases of administration and operations –finance, human resources, and internal organizational communications. Demonstrated ability to manage and develop, coach, and supervise a diverse staff; and promote collaboration. Experience working in a matrix organization is a plus.
Experience serving as an expert source of information related to all areas of administration, with a collaborative and flexible style; demonstrated ability to develop trusting long-term relationships with service providers. Ability to work collaboratively across all levels of an organization. The candidate should be well organized, able to prioritize, have a strong attention to detail, and be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Must have excellent judgment, highly developed executive talents, strong financial skills, and exceptional oral and written communications skills. A familiarity with Harvard is preferred.
