Research - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
The Senior Project Manager will serve in a highly strategic and facilitative role that empowers the ability of The Policy Lab to deliver results. The incumbent will work in an independently to define, plan, and implement activities of the Lab, including both its capacity building tasks and scientific work products. The incumbent will have a deep and advanced knowledge of organizational best practices, familiarity with government operations, and proven project management expertise derived from working successfully with high functioning scientific teams.
ABOUT THE POLICY LAB:
The Policy Lab is a team of social scientists and government leaders with a mission to supply the State of Rhode Island with actionable, empirical insights necessary to solve our most pressing problems. This is done by providing decision-makers with timely, relevant, and high-quality information to improve policy design and program operations.
Members of The Policy Lab are proficient in data analytics and scientific methodology and are passionate about applying their scientific talents to improve the performance of government. The Policy Lab creatively translates insights from the research literature into applied, feasible interventions, and weâ™re comfortable explaining complex topics to busy practitioners. The Policy Lab is made up of self-starters and team players who identify, develop, and complete projects while establishing partnerships across a variety of policy areas, in a fast-paced and exciting start-up atmosphere.
The position is a grant funded for 3 years with the possibility for renewal.
Lead the implementation of projects while working collaboratively and cooperatively with state and local agencies relevant to performance management policies and programs.
Facilitates the generation of new projects by making cross-agency connections and guiding conversations about possible interventions to support District outcomes
Collaborates with diverse working groups to establish ambitious and feasible work plans, deadlines, and priorities
Monitors progress of projects and fidelity of implementation, flexibly developing adjustments as needed with authority, in order to ensure timely and accurate execution.
Lead the efficient management of the Lab by designing and implementing new collaborative procedures and workflows to improve team functions.
Proactively provides leadership, ideas, and critical feedbackâ”as well as being open to such constructive dialogueâ”as part of constantly improving the Lab and its collective work output.
Ensure that work product adheres to methodological and open science best practices.
Oversee descriptions and summaries of the Lab projects for diverse audiences, including scientific experts, government practitioners, and public stakeholders.
Disseminates scientific lessons, tools, and best practices across the state.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
An Advanced degree in business, public policy, public administration, management, or another relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 5-7 years of highly-relevant work experience at an advanced level. Work experience should include research project management, management consulting, organizational restructuring, or other roles requiring a similar skill set.
Advanced expertise in management research and best practices
Creativity in developing and proposing solutions to complex organizational challenges
Advanced expertise in identifying, developing, and using project management strategies and tools.
Proficiency in managing a research project budget
Advanced expertise developing and deploying performance measures that empower accurate, timely project completion
Proficiency in the rationale for, and how to implement, open science best practices.
Proficiency in the logic of the scientific method
Advanced expertise in research project management, management consulting, organizational restructuring, or similar fields
Ability to author papers and reports, as demonstrated by a publication record in peer-reviewed journals, official reports or manuals, or similar outlets
Direct supervisory experience required
Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop and manage relationships with a diverse range of agency and university partnerships
Strong communication skills, in both written and verbal formats, and including under time pressure
