The Assistant Director, Alumni Engagement is an efficient event manager who plans and executes event production and operations for Law ARD including but not limited to; vendor/venue management, contract and budget management, event branding and esthetics and internal Law catering / facilities relationship manager. Responsible for developing & managing strategic relationships, and programs & events, such as; reunion, students, countdown to convocation committee/graduating class gift committee, 3L challenge, young alumni, new donor acquisition, continuity donor programs, and communications strategies. Responsible for facilitating interactions between law students and the Law Alumni Association and promoting ways for students and young alumni to continue their relationship with the Law School following graduation. Develop and coordinate engagement, stewardship, donor, and student-run events, programs and services that build strong connections between alumni and donors and Northwestern Law and partner with Young Alumni Leadership Council members to enhance student to alumni experience. Manage the Countdown to Convocation Student committee and Alumni Relations ambassadors as well as partner with the Graduating Class Gift Committee efforts/ unique donor engagement opportunities. Develop and coordinate logistics for Alumni Weekend; support Reunion class outreach and manage 2-3 reunion classes. Coordinate closely with other staff in the Office of Alumni Relations and Development, Student Services, Career Strategy, and other departments within the Law School. Serve as a liaison to both University and Northwestern Alumni Association (NAA) and may supervise student workers. May be responsible for, or participate in, limited one-to-one donor relationship management. May strategically identify activities, events &/or programs that would increase prospects, students & alumni engagement and participation and may manage activities of larger groups of volunteers. Reviews programs; analyzes responses & outcomes & recommends changes to increase goals & objectives.
Administers and maintains existing strategic plans.
Creates event metrics and helps tracks and analyzes data.
Makes recommendations based on data to maximize alumni and donor engagement. Develop strategies aimed at increasing event participation.
Involves moderate- to-high-level of collaboration with both internal department partners and moderate level of collaboration with broader University partners to identify & integrate resources in order to accomplish strategic goals & objectives.
Serves as an Alumni Relations representative at key events.
Prospects & Gifts
Assist with donor stewardship and cultivation.
Makes personal visits to alumni to develop relationships that result in strategic volunteer involvement and increased donations through annual giving.
May personally solicit gifts.
Works with development officers to implement strategies that will maximize dollars raised & participation of donors/student giving.
Assists with volunteer management, including generating reports and lists, coordinating updates, and other scheduled communications.
Maintain volunteer resources such as: event toolkit, faculty travel guidelines, and confidentiality agreements.
Address alumni and donor questions and concerns.
Coordinates event strategies with other development staff, including volunteer events, programming, marketing materials and social networking efforts.
Travels occasionally throughout the region or country on alumni visits or events.
Partner with Young Alumni Leadership Council manager and LSF partners for the 3L Challenge.
Serves as main law school liaison for all Law ARD events and manages volunteers / committees.
Develops, plans & implements strategies, goals & approach for 1 large or a number of portions of the less complex programs &/or events that promote engagement & philanthropic opportunities.
Identifies target audience(s). Researches venues.
Manage and execute logistics and programming.
Coordinate faculty / speaker travel and logistics.
Assist in creating event briefings for leadership.
Demonstrated leadership ability to develop strategic plans, implement programs, organize, initiate and motivate is required.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
A high degree of initiative, resourcefulness and creativity.
Excellent communication, both oral and written, and interpersonal skills. Strong editing and proofreading skills.
Proven success working in a team environment. A courteous manner in dealing with alumni, donors, colleagues, students and the general public.
Knowledge and experience working with budgets and budget systems.
Able to work well under time constraints with good prioritization and time management skills.
Experience in marketing & communications including social media, student development and alumni volunteer management is preferred.
Previous experience in alumni relations, higher education, event management, volunteer coordination, student affairs, development, and/or other client-centered professions is strongly preferred.
Expertise in web communications and social media tools is preferred.
The ability to develop an innovative strategic approach to involve alumni/engage students with the Law School Community.
The ability to work without close supervision and to make appropriate independent decisions concurrent with University policy.
Advanced knowledge and experience using Excel, Access, and other database management
