Assistant Director of Development and Alumni Relations - Engineering and Mineral Resources 12074
The Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Director of Development and Alumni Relations. The incumbent will d evelop and maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of the college and its programs, including its mission, history, current fundraising priorities, opportunities for private support, and events.
In order to be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will:
Develop, plan, execute and evaluate special events on and off campus to generate new prospects, cultivate prospects, steward donors, or to generate revenue for projects and initiatives, engaged Statler college alumni and friend populations, coordinating with all appropriate offices across campus including the President's Office, University Events, Colleges, Schools and Units, and the WVU Foundation.
Manage college tickets to various sporting events and list for invitation for the WVU Foundation.
Plan, schedule and complete travel, some overnight to manage/attend special events.
Work with the registrar, university events, College Academic Affairs and College Marketing team to host commencement.
Plan, host events and provide assistance for on campus events related to development and alumni relations.
Attend monthly meetings.
Design, build and launch the Dean's Young Alumni Advisory Committee.
Create and provide management support for the Departmental Alumni Academy events for outstanding alumni.
In conjunction with the Assistant Dean for Development, coordinate the nomination process for various recognitions. Work with College Communications Specialist to write and submit these nominations
Develop, execute and facilitate a plan to generate annual gift revenue through WVU Foundation's Mountaineer line, crowdfunding, and the campus campaign program, in addition to other special campaigns that may develop for the College's various departments and programs.
Work with the College student groups/project teams to identify funding opportunities and guide them through the annual giving/crowdfunding process offered by the WVU Foundation.
Plan exit celebrations and value-added programming for graduating students.
Plan entry celebrations and talks to new freshmen to stress the importance of philanthropy in their education.
Plan and manage stewardship activities with the department administrative assistant.
Additional responsibilities may involve donor prospect research, proposal writing, committee assignments and other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
Two (2) years in each of the following:
Planning and managing events and fundraising activities.
Non-profit fundraising including annual fund and major gifts.
Working in a comprehensive university setting preferred.
Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
Exceptional interpersonal and social skills.
Ability to develop, plan, and execute multiple events/projects with a high level of detail.
Ability to coordinate the work of volunteers, students and colleagues that are not direct reports.
Ability to work with highly sensitive and confidential information.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays and travel overnight.
Knowledge of fundraising techniques and practices including moving prospects through the gift cycle.
Proficient use of common software packages including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
Knowledge of the principles of fundraising and a demonstrated track record of professional success.
Evidence of entrepreneurial spirit, persuasiveness, and the ability to motivate people in support of specific causes.
Valid driver's license
