The business systems analyst's primary objective is helping the University implement technology solutions in a cost-effective way by determining the requirements of a project or program, and communicating them clearly to stakeholders, facilitators and partners. This position will specifically focus on helping the Office of Information Technology (OIT) assess problems and opportunities related to IT Service Management (ITSM) function and develop appropriate solutions on the University's ITSM platform to address those needs by defining, analyzing and documenting, and testing requirements. The position also involves working at a high technical level by gaining a detailed understanding of the ITSM platform, its components, capabilities, limitations, and product roadmap. The position requires to BSA to guide stakeholders and technical staff in developing solutions which address the business need but also align with the ITSM platform's capabilities and limitations.
Business Case & Scope of Work: Under general direction, formulates and defines systems scope and objectives based on both user needs and a good understanding of applicable business systems and industry requirements. Business Process Review: Gains understanding of business process context related to project. Seeks to understand ITSM best practice and advises stakeholders on business process alignment to best practice. Identifies opportunities to eliminate waste from process and increase customer value. Elicitation and Collaboration: Prepare for and conduct elicitation activities and confirm the results obtained with stakeholders throughout the business analysis activities. Requirements Life Cycle Management: Manage and maintain requirements and design information from inception to retirement. Requirements Analysis and Design Definition: Structure and organize requirements discovered during elicitation activities, specify and model requirements and designs, validate and verify information, identify solution options that meet business needs, and estimate the potential value that could be realized for each solution option. Translates agreed on solution into proper system requirement specifications. Product Roadmap Oversight & Coordination: Becomes highly advised in the ITSM platform product roadmap identifying upcoming product releases, enhancements, bug fixes. Coordinates with stakeholders to evaluate, test and implement new product features beneficial to the organization. Outcomes Definition & Management: Leads stakeholders in defining desired outcomes, assigning success measures, creating test cases to prove achievability of outcome attainment prior to go-live, and measurement of outcomes post implement to ensure project achieve outcomes. Supervision: Guides and advises less-experienced Business Systems Analysts. Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor degree in one of the following areas: computer technology, business management, management information or computer systems with 4 to 5 years of support and analysis experience; or the equivalent experience. A strong understanding and application of assessing project, business and/or program requirements and developing technical solutions is needed. Working knowledge of preparing test cases for technology alignment, and the ability to convert the requests from business users and management into a workable solution to present to technology staff. Strong MS Office skills (Word, Excel, and Visio) are required. Excellent organization, teamwork, problem solving, presentation, customer service and communication (verbal and written) skills. Ability to work well with all organizational levels.
Bachelor's Degree in any of the areas above and/or IT Certification in Business Analysis with 6+ years of developing business requirements and test case scenarios. 3+ years' experience as an analyst in a higher education environment. 3+ years' experience with ITSM and/or ITIL concepts and framework. 3+ years' experience in an ITSM platform such as ServiceNow. 3+ years' experience as a product manager or supporting a product manager. 3+ years' experience as an analyst in an Agile environment. 3+ years' experience as an analyst in a higher education environment.
