The University of Tennessee (UT) Joint Institute for Computational Sciences (JICS) is seeking an individual with a proven track record as a Computational Scientist for the National Institute for Computational Sciences (NICS) Scientific Computing Group (SCG). NICS operates computing resources and provides support to University of Tennessee and national science and engineering communities giving them the capability to address some of their most computationally challenging problems. A critical component of this support is provided by domain experts within the SCG. The positions reports to the NICS Scientific Computing Group Leader.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will serve as a liaison between the Joint Institute for Computational Sciences (JICS) and the users of its computational resources and/or its collaborators. He/she will work with users and/or collaborators to develop, port, and tune scientific applications to work well in the JICS computing environment and represent their needs for JICS planning and decision-making. The candidate will also have the opportunity to pursue scientific research and increase the Institute's expertise. He/she will work to facilitate, execute, and maintain already developed research activities in the best interest of the Institute.
Responsibilities of these position include, but are not limited to: -working closely with users to assist them in using computational resources effectively and efficiently and in integrating available resources into workflows across computational environments, -working with user groups and vendors to develop, port, debug, and optimize applications, -evaluating and deploying system software, libraries, and tools for use on available computational resources, -disseminating research results, training materials, and operational experiences via journal papers, conference papers, and presentations in a variety of venues, and -participating in various center and application-area research proposals.
