Overview: The University of Minnesota’s Creative Writing Program in the Department of English maintains a pool of teaching specialists and lecturers to teach lower and upper division courses in creative writing (poetry, fiction, nonfiction) that cannot be staffed by regular faculty or graduate teaching assistants, for openings that may occur in Fall 2018 (August 27, 2018 - January 13, 2019); or Spring 2019 (January 14, 2019 - May 26, 2019). Teaching may be for day or evening courses. Appointments may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance. This does not constitute a posting for vacancies, but establishes a pool of applicants should openings occur during the 2018/19 academic year. Applicants will be selected from this pool on an as-needed basis through the academic year.
Duties/Responsibilities: Teach assigned courses as requested; prepare for class, lectures; syllabus and grading policies; hold office hours on a weekly basis; communicate with students in-person, via email; enter midterm alerts; final grades.
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree; minimum of one-year college teaching experience in designated field.
Preferred qualifications: MFA (or equivalent in creative publications); two or more years college teaching experience in the courses which are to be offered, broad familiarity with creative writing and literature; one published book (or book in press).
