The Office of the General Counsel provides legal advice and representation to The University of Tennessee System, including all campuses and institutes. This position is in the General Counsel's main office, which is located on the campus of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
This position is responsible for assisting several attorneys with litigation activities, particularly collecting, organizing, managing, and producing both paper and electronic documents, and other legal work for the University.
Identifies, preserves, collects, processes, reviews, and assists with producing electronically stored information in litigation.
Drafts, revises, proofreads, and reviews agreements designed to resolve or avoid litigation.
Accurately identifies attorney-client privileged documents and attorney work product documents and prepares privilege logs.
Maintains databases of privileged legal information, including deadlines in pending cases and indexes of documents requested, collected, reviewed, or produced.
Researches and summarizes information and proofreads documents for University officials.
Collects, sorts, redacts, and indexes documents for a wide variety of matters (not all in active litigation, but using the same skills as litigation discovery).
Collects, compiles, copies, and indexes documents and records effectively and efficiently;
Accurately and thoroughly summarizes documents, records, and/or depositions.
Prepares documents according to instructions, in accordance with court rules, and with proper citations; Carefully proofreads documents and ensure that they are free of typographical errors.
Efficiently uses the court's electronic filing system.
Sorts and distributes incoming matters in a timely manner, bringing any high priority matters to the attorney's attention; properly addresses, copies, and sends outgoing correspondence and enclosures.
Accurately maintains calendar, including (if applicable) noting all meetings, court appearances, interviews, depositions, and litigation deadlines; monitors deadlines effectively.
Opens, keeps current, and closes files timely and properly.
Assists attorneys in preparing for and appearing at depositions, hearings, and trials. Determines and locates witnesses.
Arranges depositions, meetings, reserves appropriate meeting room, and informs parties of date, time, location, and purpose of meeting; prepares necessary materials. Arranges for court reporters when required.
Makes travel arrangements in accordance with University policy; timely and properly handles travel reimbursements.
Processes invoices for payment according to University Fiscal Policy and Department guidelines.
