This position is in the Department of Internal Medicine - Gastroenterology Division, IBD Section. The position is located at Wohl Hospital. This position is for the Medical School Campus. The majority of activity will be at the Washington University Medical Center. Some travel to sites such as Barnes Jewish West County Hospital and South County Center for Advanced Medicine may be required.
Position performs advanced physician support duties requiring substantial use of medical terminology as well as maintaining physician’s schedules.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinates department administrative and clinical support services such as patient calls, processing and paperwork related to prescription refills, patient appointments / radiology / GI procedure / lab test scheduling, transcription processing, manuscripts, correspondence, physician presentations, clinical data spreadsheet entries and tracking, clinical research and education program administrative assistance, patient assistance and patient disability forms. Provide phone prior authorizations for medications and other collaboration with the pre-authorization department.
Transcribes medical documents such as physician’s letters, correspondence, nurse’s notes, and manuscripts; if order entry in the electronic medical record is part of the job function, completes requisitions/orders per Washington University guidelines.
Maintains physician’s daily appointment schedule and calendar, schedules meetings, arranges conference calls, reserves catering services, makes travel arrangements, and completes travel expense reports.
Prepares patient charts, including delivering work-ups.
Serves as liaison between patients, physicians, and staff, providing routine information to patient inquiries.
Assists administrative/clinical staff during peak times, vacations/illnesses.
Assists with retrieval and delivery of reports, CD's and slides, etc.
Other duties as assigned.

Equivalent of high school diploma.
3 years of related experience in medical office setting.
If order entry in the electronic medical record is part of the job’s function/responsibilities, Medical Assistant certification/registration-eligible with successful completion of certification exam during orientation period (6 months), or otherwise noted by the hiring manager is required.
The hiring range for this position is $16.31 - $20.39 per hour.
