Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Controller's Department at Iowa State University is seeking qualified candidates for Accountant III positions within the Accounting Office.
Responsibilities for these positions include managing and performing post audit of supplier payments for compliance with tax, policy, documentation, allowability, etc, post audit of travel reimbursements, and cash advances. Perform audits of foreign supplier payments and apply tax treaty withholding appropriately. Respond to supplier payment inquiries, reconcile supplier statements, credit balances, follow-up on outstanding invoices, and assist with resolution of supplier issues as needed.
Responsible for 1099 payment reviews, issuance and corrections and generate appropriate 1099 K and 1099B reporting. File federal and state fuel tax refund claims, sales tax, and excise tax remittances in accordance with regulations. Follow-up on stale-dated checks, monitor and complete required escheatment to different states in accordance with state requirements. Assist with compilation of data required for 990 and 990-T tax returns.
Perform required supplier/vendor record maintenance as needed and review new supplier/vendor requests and changes to ensure information is accurate and tax information is complete.
Oversee daily settlement run process and manage supplier/vendor special payment handling. Serve as a campus resource for assigned areas of responsibility and provided campus training as needed.
Further, this position will perform other accounting functions along with serving as a back-up for other areas of the Accounting Office.
The successful candidate will have the ability to comprehend, interpret and apply written policies and procedures to the audit process. The candidate will possess strong computer application skills (e.g., Microsoft Office software including Excel, Outlook,and Word) and have excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong problem solving skills, excellent organizational and time management skills, and the ability to work independently, as well as within a team, will be essential for success in this position.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
-Experience auditing accounting transactions for compliance with policies, regulations and procedures. -Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office software including Excel, Outlook and Word -Experience in a high-volume accounting environment. -Experience with sales tax, excise tax and/or escheatment. -Experience with 1099 tax requirements and issuance. -Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance or other business-related field
