This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Public Information Assistant position for the Center for Research on Lifelong STEM at Oregon State University (OSU).
The Center for Research on Lifelong STEM Learning Public Information Assistant will play a vital role in 1) developing and updating the public-facing story of the Center and its impacts and 2) supporting the Center leadership and staff to work productively and efficiently. The primary duties include: gathering, reviewing and curating of multimedia resources; designing, writing, editing and producing public facing media; sharing information to maintain Center relationships with other OSU units or external organizations; and providing administrative support for program staff. Based in Corvallis, the Center maintains partnerships with academic, government and non-profit organizations across the county. Center staff work in a fast-paced and collaborative environment that includes 12 employees and more than 20 active research and evaluation projects. The person in this position will, along with the entire staff, support an equitable and inclusive workspace and culture. The Public Information Assistant will report to the Associate Director but serves administrative and communications needs for the whole Center.
Two years of experience gathering information, writing and/or producing materials, and presenting materials to selected audiences; OR A Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communication, or a closely-related field.
Experience effectively developing website content and maintaining websites using content management systems such as Drupal or Wordpress.
Proficiency using social media to connect and promote the work of an organization.
Excellent writing skills and demonstrable ability to write interesting and engaging research summaries and impact stories for broad audiences.
Excellent email, phone and personal communications skills employing clear, concise and well-crafted language.
Proficiency in MS Excel or comparable database programs.
Demonstrable ability to use cloud-based collaborative platforms such as Box, Google Drive, Slack, Basecamp, Zoom and Webex.
Demonstrable ability to coordinate logistics for events such as seminars, workshops and conferences (including designing registration forms, tracking participation, room setup, catering, managing volunteers and promoting events).
Demonstrable ability to effectively collaborate with others. A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030 et seq.
