Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Department of 4-H Youth Development with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is seeking qualified candidates for a position of Extension Program Specialist IV – STEM Specialist.
Working with the Product Development Manager and in collaboration with the ISU School of Education, the Extension Program Specialist IV position will lead Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) educational product development and STEM literacy outreach through resource development and trainings to enhance access to STEM learning opportunities for all K-12 youth.
The successful candidate will provide leadership to the 4-H STEM Program Priority Team, providing direction for the development and support of STEM literacy for youth statewide. Additionally, this individual will be responsible for partnering with Iowa State University colleges and departments to develop relevant, research-based STEM educational products to be utilized by formal and informal educators. The position will also involve securing external funds to support STEM program development as well as representing 4-H STEM Programs on multiple advisory boards and taskforces at the state and national level.
This position will provide direct supervision and management of multiple state 4-H STEM events and programs, including but not limited to the State Science and Technology Fair of Iowa and 4-H Robotics Challenge in addition to collaborative workshops and year-round programs in STEM for the Iowa 4-H Youth Development Program and the School of Education. These programs as part of the extension and outreach mission will also create awareness of career, educational and networking opportunities in Cooperative Extension and 4-H Youth Development for students in the School of Education. This position will also supervise 4-H STEM staff and graduate students.
The successful candidate will have exceptional management, organizational, written, and oral communication skills. The demonstrated ability to create, manage and prioritize complex projects and multiple deadlines with the ability to make independent judgments and take initiative on projects is essential. Proven leadership and teamwork skills and demonstrated ability to organize and to direct outreach programs, including financial management are required. A creative, enthusiastic self-starter with the ability to react quickly to the changing needs of the organization and to take initiative in applying new approaches to outreach projects to create enhanced outcomes and impacts will also be needed in order to be successful in this position.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree and 3 years of related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Master's degree. Experience writing and developing curriculum. Experience designing, coordinating, and producing events. Teaching experience. Experience with STEM fields or subject matters. Experience with grants and contracts. Experience in program assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
