Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Department of Human Sciences Extension and Outreach with Iowa State University is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Extension Program Specialist II for the EFNEP/SNAP-Ed Unit.
The Extension Program Specialist II – EFNEP/SNAP-Ed Supervisor will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination, training, and supervision of the adult EFNEP program staff in Polk County as well as the SNAP-Ed program staff in Warren, Madison, Story, and Marshall County. In addition to supervision, this staff member will oversee all data collection, entry and reporting, coordinate county partnerships and assist staff with community outreach, engage in monthly conferences with staff to discuss performance, goals, time management, training and record-keeping, strategize for staff and unit performance improvement, oversee hiring and training for staff and serve on county, regional and state committees as required. In addition, this staff member will be expected to attend at least one county Extension Council meeting per year for each county where their supervisees work.
The successful candidate will possess exceptional problem solving skills, strong organizational and analytical skills, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills. Supervisory and coaching skills, as well as networking and collaboration skills are beneficial to this position to step into a leadership role when needed. Basic nutrition education knowledge, independent judgment, initiative, and exceptional ability to coordinate a variety of activities will also be needed to be successful in this role.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree and related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to Human Sciences, Health Education or Services, Social Science, or closely related field.
Additional years of experience.
Experience supervising paraprofessional staff.
Experience with federally funded nutrition education programs.
This position serves Polk County with a base office location in the Polk County Extension Office in Altoona, Iowa.
This position requires travel to carry out Extension and Outreach responsibilities. Candidate must have access to their own transportation and will be reimbursed for travel expenses per ISU travel policy. This position will require travel between these counties each week.
